BUILDING GROUNDS SPECIALIST III

WORK SCHEDULE: Thursday to Monday, 11:30am – 8:30pm/Full Time

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma and custodial or groundskeeping experience directly related to the area of employment. Ability to operate custodial equipment as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge to properly carry out custodial and housekeeping tasks; knowledge of custodial housekeeping requirements; knowledge of safety practices relative to the areas of employment, skill in the use of cleaning tools and equipment.

Physical Requirements:  Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, reach, grasp and lift up to 50lbs without assistance.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in electrical and carpentry

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:
The person in this position will be responsible for performing custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance tasks for the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. Perform maintenance and repair tasks for offices, classrooms, dormitory rooms, bathrooms, hallways, practice rooms, the cafeteria, the recital hall, the theatre, and outside structures in such areas as carpentry, masonry, electricity, heating, venting, and air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing. Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding the most cost effective and efficient course of action. Performs routine and preventive maintenance and housekeeping duties and conducts routine inspections of buildings and equipment on a regular basis. Responsible for interior painting. Assists with small building projects. Assists with small motor repairs. Performs various tasks required to accomplish landscaping goals, including loading and unloading, and spreading mulch and top soil; planting or relocating trees, shrubbery, bulbs perennials and annuals; blowing and raking, bagging leaves and frass from lawn and flower beds; watering plants for optimal growth; removing ground debris and pruning/cutting limbs from trees; and mowing flat and incline surfaces. Assists with set-ups for facility functions. Loads and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment, as needed. Performs other related duties as required.

WORLD LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR

WORK SCHEDULE: 10 Month Faculty (August – May); Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm/Full Time  

LOCATION: South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Division of  Arts and Academics, Office of the Dean, Greenville, South Carolina   

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate academic discipline and at least three (3) years of teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level. Possess or have the qualifications to obtain South Carolina Teacher Certification. Ability to teach a range of World Languages courses including Spanish at all levels (introductory to Advanced Placement) along with electives if/as the schedule permits. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree with at least five (5) years teaching experience in the appropriate academic discipline at the secondary and/or post-secondary level. National Board Certification. Demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills to work with public school students who have demonstrated exceptional artistic potential and achievement, other arts educators, and diverse constituencies and cultures. Administrative experience (departmental leadership or club sponsorship, organizing, leading, representing the department and school). Preferred candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as an educator. 

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES: The instructor will advance the mission of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities to identify and teach South Carolina's artistically talented high school students through programs of pre-professional instruction in an environment of artistic and academic excellence. The successful candidate will also advance the school's mission by serving as a resource for all teachers and students in South Carolina.   In consultation with the Department Chair or Dean, develops and instructs a World Languages curriculum in accordance with state and national standards and with the school’s curriculum as adopted by the Board of Directors. Develops, in writing and in consultation with the Department Chair, an annual goal in a three-year cycle as part of an ongoing performance evaluation program. Participates in faculty and departmental meetings, committees, programs, and other events that promote excellence and growth in the department and school. Participates in the academic eligibility review process as requested by the Department Chair or Dean, and demonstrates interest and engagement in student performances and other school-wide activities. Participates in Outreach activities.   Demonstrates excellence in continued academic and/or artistic pursuits. Represents the SCGSAH and department by making presentations in and out of state, in districts and schools for professional organizations, parent groups, and similar opportunities. Other related duties as may be assigned by the Department Chair or Administration.

LOCATION: South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Greenville, SC   

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate academic discipline and at least three (3)  years of teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level. Possess or have the qualifications to obtain South Carolina Teacher Certification. Ability to teach French and/or German.   

Preferred: Master’s degree with at least five (5) of relevant experience at the secondary level. Experience and interest in teaching French and/or German and/or other Romance languages. Demonstrated knowledge  and interpersonal skills to work with public school students who have demonstrated exceptional artistic  potential and achievement, other arts educators, and diverse constituencies and cultures. Preferred  candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as an  educator.  

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Academic Chair and/or Dean  the instructor will teach the target world language for the 2024-2025 academic school year. These are part-time, adjunct positions with potential to teach French II up to advanced levels. German classes are typically German III and IV. The school offers Advanced Placement French and/or German based on student interest (class enrollment).
